Change Your Life with Two Questions

Daniel Pink, author of Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, makes a poignant statement with his promotional video for the book. In the video (below) he asks two questions: “What’s your sentence?” and “Was I better today than yesterday?” Pink explains that Clara Booth Luce, an American playwright, ambassador, editor, and U.S. Congresswoman, among other things, upon meeting J.F.K. told him that “a great man is a sentence.” That is, a great man’s life and accomplishments can be summed up in a single sentence. The idea behind this thinking is that you cannot be great without focus and motivation. That goes for your business, as well.

To propel your business to greatness, you must focus on what you as a business owner wish to accomplish with your business and work every day toward that goal, and toward improving your business. And who knows, that goal may shift and morph as you progress and achieve a clarity of vision thitherto unknown, and that’s fine. Most ideas require some revision along the way to be truly realized anyway (take Thomas Edison and his light bulb, for example), the challenge is remaining focused.
